CaseFlow + eClinicalWorks

HL7 v2 ADT + FHIR R4 · healow Platform

eClinicalWorks uses a hybrid integration approach: we receive HL7 v2 ADT messages (admission, discharge, transfer) for real-time appointment events, and supplement with FHIR R4 API calls via the healow platform for structured patient data. This means you get live appointment updates and patient confirmations without your IT team managing complex interface servers. Most eCW practices go live without any middleware changes.

Most eClinicalWorks practices go live in under 30 minutes

We work with your existing eCW configuration — no middleware changes required. The HL7 v2 ADT feed is typically already configured in your eCW environment for other integrations; CaseFlow connects to the same feed. Our team handles the connection setup — you just confirm the feed is active.

Security & Compliance

HIPAA BAA is signed before any connection is made. The HL7 v2 feed connection is authenticated and scoped — only appointment and patient demographic events are received. Data is encrypted at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.3) via the healow FHIR endpoint.

Frequently asked questions

Does this require IT involvement? +
Minimal. Most eCW practices already have an HL7 v2 ADT feed configured for other integrations (e.g., scheduling, billing). CaseFlow connects to that same feed — no new middleware, no new interface servers. Our team handles the configuration end; your eCW admin confirms the feed is active.
Will staff see double appointments in eClinicalWorks? +
No. CaseFlow writes confirmation status back to the existing eCW patient record via the healow FHIR endpoint — it doesn't create duplicate entries. Staff see the same single appointment record, now showing real-time SMS confirmation status.
Can we turn off the sync? +
Yes — instantly. Pause or disconnect from the CaseFlow dashboard at any time. The HL7 feed can also be paused from your eCW admin panel. Reconnection takes the same 10-15 minutes.
Does this work with multi-location eClinicalWorks practices? +
Yes. Each location's HL7 ADT feed can be connected independently. If your multi-location setup uses a single feed that aggregates all locations, we can filter by location code in the feed. Tell us your setup and we'll confirm the approach.
